A quotation of hope: Is spring coming? What is it like?

Morden Blush Roses, Copyright Margaret Buffie

“Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like?"...
"It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine...”
Frances Hodgen Burnett, The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is one of the great classics of children's literature.

This photo was taken in my own garden last year. It is a Morden Blush Rose. Its smell is tender and sweet. I am longing for spring and roses and rain falling on sunshine.

The crocuses are pushing their way up out of the lawn, and every year, about this time, THE SECRET GARDEN plays out in my mind and my yard... And I have to go out and weed, so the young sweet shoots have space to grow...

... and my heritage red rose (great for rose-petal jelly), planted when the house was built (1927), that I had to MOVE last year to try to save it... is SPROUTING!!!!!! Life is grand.

You are sooo lucky! It is -21 C right now. We had blowing snow all day yesterday and my garden has an new layer of white on white, it is still sleeping soundly below. And a snow storm is predicted for tomorrow! But the sun is out today!

I just wish I could smell fresh moist earth and see one crocus pushing through .... :-)

Seeing crocuses would certainly be nice right about now, wouldn't it? I love your roses. They remind me of my grandmother's garden (and how much I miss her!) 'The Secret Garden' was one of my favourite books growing up, probably because it also reminds me of my British heritage and my grandmother's garden. :)

Hi Susan!
I loved "The Secret Garden," too. I'm glad you enjoyed this photo of my roses. It seems the more I long for spring, the more the snow falls. I'd better hope for more snow - and maybe spring will come early!

Gorgeous and now I am craving summer.

Me, too, Rebecca. I'm trying not to wish days away - but I AM longing for spring.
