That's a tough one, so I'll mention the two that I have recently reread -- again. The winter blahs get to me, so I want to read books that make me think, but give me hope, flashes of real humour, and a kind of universal understanding and depth of human feeling. Stories about ordinary people sorting out their lives - hard for any writer to do and when it's done well ... a gift to the reader!
An older book and a newer book I just finished reading again:
1) "Excellent Women" by Barbara Pym (1952) who is one of my favourite writers - and is considered to be (by a number of critics(and me!) one of the most under-rated writers of the 20th C.
2) "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand", (2010), by Helen Simonson which is just pure pleasure to read.
I also reread Austen's "Persuasion" at least once a year! Do you have a fav to reread?

Thanks for writing. That's an easy question to answer! Although I loved English, my absolute favourite subject was Art. Luckily when I went to school, it was a subject you could take as an elective. From high school, I went to university and got a bachelor degree in Fine Arts (BFA). I also taught art and still paint when I'm not writing!
